Petra

The Nabateans were nomads that acquired wealth through trading. Relatively little is known about their civilization. However, one belief is that they settled in Petra when a king was established. Since they were nomadic, they were influenced by several different cultures which is evident in some of their stone work. Nabateans lived in free standing houses. The mountainside facades were primarily tombs. However, a water system was also carved into the sandstone that would carry water from flash floods into a resevior.
